From the time we were babies, we first learned by watching. As babies, we distinguished who was “mommy” and who was “daddy” before we could say who was who with our mouths. Our eyes have always been the first portal of information.
This translates and transcends into adulthood as well. There are many believers of Christ who feel as though they have to constantly, repeatedly tell people about their wrongs and about why God is the right path. In doing this, they lose sight of the fact that people are watching their actions much more than they are listening to their words.
Think about it, you might be saying the “correct things” and you might be ALWAYS in their ear saying what you think you should say, but still, this only translates to them as you being intolerant to their flaws, and being insensitive to their past struggles…because your ACTIONS show different than what your mouth says.
People (myself included) know that we have things to move on from. Repeatedly telling someone what they already know they need to do doesn’t help them move forward at all. Rather than always “bible thump” and beat a dead horse, why not walk with them through it and show them how to do it. Why not speak with your life rather than your words alone?
A study was done that shows that the number 1 knock against Christians is that we are intolerant. We dismiss any and all other people, but yet feel we’ve earned the right somehow to speak into everybody’s life. That’s not how Jesus modeled what our life should be, and that’s not how God instructed us to live.
The way you win people’s trust, the ability to speak into their life, and ultimately win souls for Christ is to be a model and an example. Making integral, wise choices, and leading by example aren’t always the easiest things to do. However, they plant the right seeds that may never require you to water them.
Simply put, your life might be such an example one day that you inspire someone that you’ll never meet to do amazing things. Live your life to the fullest, and live it to uplift others. Live as an example and allow your life to win people.
